About Us

The Susan Fund was established in 1982 to honor the memory of Susan Davis Lloyd, a Westport Connecticut teenager who was diagnosed with osteogenic sarcoma at the beginning of her senior year at Staples High School.

Originally, the Fund was part of Candlelighters, Inc. of Fairfield County and known as The Susan Davis Lloyd Educational Memorial Fund. In October 1991, the Fund incorporated separately as The Susan Fund, Inc. The Susan Fund has grown dramatically since its inception in both the number of grants and the total amount bestowed.

The recipients have come from almost every community in Fairfield County, Connecticut, and have attended a wide variety of colleges and training institutions. The recipients’ maturity and example serve to inspire and encourage everyone who is privileged to be part of their lives.
